June 2010 – Fete du Vin

And boy, did the sun shine! The parents had left BritGirl after a week of cloud, rain and a little sunshine, but as they left Bordeaux showed the summer it really could provide!

Temperatures of 30c plus became common throughout June, just in time for the bi-annual Bordeaux Fete du Vin (Wine Festival). This was a weekend of wine, food, freebies, music, light shows and fireworks along the Quais of the Garonne! Perfect thought BritGirl, a stones throw from the apartment!

So BritGirl and her boyfriend spent most evenings wandering the Quais people watching and supping on local wine….sweet whites, grey rose, ruby red from St Emilion or the Medoc area….mmm all of which were lovely!! People watching was an experience – from tourists, to locals, to business men schmoozing the local producers and businesses and teenagers on their skate boards; it was a true melange of people!

BritGirl loved it – fireworks over the river finished off the festival every evening and it was an event worth seeing!! One of the many events in Bordeaux which BritGirl will never forget!

Although the week before had been fun with her parents, it is fair to stay that she had found the week somewhat emotional trying to get her thoughts and life plans in order – so a weekend of wine was just what she needed to end the first month of summer and to remember the good things about la vie en France!
